Dark Plum Dress Suit by Christian Dior Purple Prune

Beautiful plum / aubergine devoree and wool dress suit by Christian Dior.

Worn once for my daughter's November 1996 wedding in London, though from the ready-to-wear line this suit epitomises the chic and elegance that Gianfranco Ferré brought to House at that time. As Mother of the Bride, I searched a long time before I found this, a beautiful fabric, cut and silhouette that provided the feeling that one is dressed exactly as the occasion deserves. 

The top of the dress is paisley devoree silk making a high waisted, the bodice is backed in flesh color silk. The long sleeves are unlined and end in four covered buttons. Dress and jacket made of wool, crepe feel. Overlapping front on the jacket and pleating along the bust and skirt make a flattering shape.

The short (though not bolero) jacket has one covered button at the top and turn-back cuffs. Fully lined in same-color fabric, exquisite workmanship throughout.

No fabric label for dress, no size labels. Although in very good, once-worn condition, marking Good because of this but also underarm marks on the inside lining of the dress and a small mark on the skirt lining that may just be part of the silk (see photo). None of this is visible, outfit looks as new.
